PostSubject: A new Beginning   Thu Jul 23, 2015 11:24 pm

The heat of the flames, the stench of seared flesh, and the weight of his Father's corpse was all he could take in as the remnants of his village were being razed by the undead attack.
Tears began flowing from his eyes as the smoke started to sting. "What....What is going on?" He Shook his Father once, "Dad...Dad? Are you alright?" He could feel the warmth fade from the body and panic set in, "Dad, Wake up! Stop playing around....WAKE UP!" When he could get no answer he wiped his eyes to aliviate the pain and moved from under his now cold loved one.
"What now...." He began thinking "The village is gone....My dad is dead..." He fell to his hands and knees no longer able to hold back the anguish flowing from his eyes he sobbed hard, his
throat dry and burning he began to lose all hope. In the distance he heard the shuffling of wood and a low audiable moan. He saw it, the cause of his torment, the sole reason why his world
was turned on its head and the sole reason he was now alone. His sight went black, he could no longer hear anything save for a low rining and the repeated moan from a few feet away. He could
feel a staggering heat inside of him that he'd never known. Anger, Rage, Hate. All he could bring to his mind was his burning anger directed at the noise, He saw the Bronze Spear his father
would use for hunting, leaned over it and grasped the shaft, he shifted his grip to a fighting stance, knuckles white from how strongly he held the polearm. He had been out to the occasional
hunt but was never given any real combat training, despite this he began to rush forward twards the source of his fury and thrust the spear forward hoping to do any real damage, anything
to dish out some sort of vengeance. The lance went cleanly through the Undead's chest, which caused it to flinch slightly before crushing both the lance and his arm in one clean hit.
He screamed in pain, grasping his now broken arm while falling to his knees. In this moment, he knew, He would be next. Unable to Avenge his father or his village. Unable to satiate his
Rage, He went limp, lowering his head and shoulders. He had all but given up. Death would soon welcome him in it's cold embrace, he would soon see his now lost loved ones again. 'This isn't
so bad' he thought. 'I can at least die knowing I tried.' He then felt the fire in his chest again. "Is this all I can do?" he said under his breath. "IS THIS ALL I AMMOUNT TO!?" The fire
burned brightly as the blue pendant he always carried with him began to glow. Power. He could feel it all throughout his body, as he extended his good arm twards the undead and a blue light
shot out, evaporating the adversary in front of him. Purplexed he looked at his arm, the light faded from his pendant, the fire from his chest and the light from his eyes he fell on his back, his
eyes slowly closing he noticed a figure in the distance, coming closer as his consiousness faded.

PostSubject: Re: A new Beginning   Fri Jul 24, 2015 1:16 am

The wind blew though Marquis' hair as he stood at the rock face of Moonwhipser Mountain, the smell of smoke filling his nostrils. He had been posted in a near by cave for several days, enjoying the peace he found in nature until this morning, when he was woken to the sounds of clashing steel and screams of agony. The village at the base of the mountain was engulfed in an unholy flame. The villagers had been kind to him as he passed though to gather supplies before his journey up the mountain, and now nearly all that was left were ashes. In the distance figures could be seen exiting the forest beyond the valley, some staggering across it. "Survivors" he thought at first, but their unpredictable movements brought only more questions.
He let out a long whistle, a large raven landed on his left shoulder. "What did you find?" he asked the bird.
"The village is being razed by Undead." she replied bluntly. Not to Marquis directly, but as a whisper creeping through his thoughts.
"I'm going to search for survivors and clear out any remaining Undead. Any idea who or what might have caused this Sandra?" he asked.
"Their seems to be a skirmish taking place with in the forest between the Drow and some warriors. I would assume this is a direct effect."
"Drow and Undead in the same day... and I haven't even made tea yet..." he sighed. Sandra flew off as Marquis leaped off the cliff and slid down to the bottom of the mountain.

The village was still burning, the intensity of the flames hit hard as he made his way though the debris. All he found was chard corpses and the occasional undead, shambling though the fires. A swift thrust of a dagger through their skulls was all it took to finish what the fire started, though he ignored the ones deeper in the scorching fires. After a few minutes of searching he started to believe no one survived the attack, when suddenly a vociferous cry came from behind a building a few feet away, followed by a flash of blue light.
When he reached the other side he saw a boy falling over a pile of ashes, the corpse of a older man behind him. As he approached the boys eyes flickered, until they rolled around and he lost consciousness. Marquis could sense something with the child. The boy was young, no more than sixteen, but a power could be felt flowing inside of him. Curiosity struck Marquis.
"What was that light?" he thought to himself. Sandra flew over head, making sure to keep clear of the ravaging blaze, and let out a cry, signaling Marquis to head back to the mountain base. Grabbing the boy, he threw him over his shoulder and fled from the once prospering village, satisfied with saving at least one life, though still wishing he could have done more.

Darkness. Pain. "Where am I? What is going on?" he thought to himself as he slowly regained consiousness. He could feel the throbbing in his right arm, clearly broken, but cared for.
His arm was in a splint and tied tight across his chest so it wouldn't move around too much while he slept. "Who....Where...." His memory was hazy. He could remember his name. Laeyon.
He had no last name, as his birth parents were unknown to him and his adoptive father from the village told him to make a name for himself someday. "Taking a tired old man's last name is
hardly fitting for a hero, my boy. You'll surely earn yourself one on your own." remembering the warm feeling he always got when he had these small talks. Then the realization hit,
"They're all dead. They're all gone. I'm alone." he thought to himself. He took a look around him, he was in a warm cave, while dark and slightly damp, it felt very lived in.
"Is there anyone there?" he shouted, wondering who had tended to his wounds. He heard a shuffling, "A bird?" he whispered to himself. He slowly got to his feet,
walked outside and basked in the morning sun. "I wonder how long I was out for?" CAW CAW. He turned around, startled, clearly shaken from the recent events. "Oh lord, it was a bird. You
scared me little one, do you know who brought me here?" He asked playfully, knowing full well he wouldn't get a clear answer. CAW! the bird started to fly from one branch to another going
westward. After 3 solid Hops the crow stopped. CAW CAW! Then made a head motion to the west. "Well I guess that means you want me to follow you, huh?" He looked around and made sure he had
solid footing, then headed down the Mountain path following the mysterious Crow. As he followed he grabbed his pendant still hanging from the necklace given to him by his late adoptive father
and made a silent prayer. "I hope you all make it to the other side. You deserve nothing less." The Crow lead him to a clearing where he saw a man slightly younger than the man who raised him
He was crouching in a feild, next to what looked like a freshly dug grave. Laeyon's heart fell to the pit of his stomach, the only explaination for a grave after this incident was either for
some villager, killed in the attack, or one closer to him. He already knew, deep in his heart, what the answer was, however unready he was to face it. He steadied his heart and his mind,
"Hey!" he said in a low tone to the man busy in the field.

"Finally awake I see. The tonic I gave you should help with the pain. I also did my best to strengthen the muscles around the bone. The break it self will still take several days to heal but lucky for you, it was a clean break." He stared at the boy with curiosity. He was nothing special, just any other kid with no defining features besides his abnormal shade of burning red hair, though Marquis' thoughts still lingered on the tremendous power he felt within the child. It had dissipated, almost Into nonexistence, but at the same time still there, sleeping, waiting to awaken once again.
Marquis stepped out of the grave and picked up a hide sac laying on the ground next to it. He tossed it at the boy and he flinched as it fumbled around in his arms. Narrowly grasping it by the draw string the boy looked at him with confusion.
"There are enough rations to get you by for at least three days. Take one of the vials inside each day until they are completely gone, and only take the blue one after you have used the others. It will hasten the healing process of your arm and keep the pain to minimum, but be warned, miss a dose within 36 hours and you will wish I'd left you to burn"
Marquis grabbed a wrapped figure, one of several corpses lined before the hole he had dug and tossed it in, paying the boy no more mind.

"I...." his words trailed off as he looked on to the row of fresh Graves in front of him. "Last time I broke a bone it took over 4 weeks to heal..." he thought to himself. He felt the contents of the sack jingle about as he slung it over his shoulder. "How long was I out?" He walked twards the man, still busy with the work he was doing, "Sorry, I was rude, first I wanted to say thank you. I'm sure if I were left there I would have died, and you've given the village a far better resting place than I could. Truely, thank you." He felt another twinge of pain from his arm but brushed it off. He looked over the line of Graves once again "Which one belongs to the man who was next to me? He was the man who has taken care of me all my life. I'd like to give him thanks at least one last time."

Marquis pointed at the grave on the far left end, still keeping his back to the child without saying anything. "The man who raised him... Lost before his eyes. Is fate laughing at me now? Or is it just coinsidence... The casualties of war claiming another innocent. I came to this realm to run from my fears... And yet here I stand, again filled with obligations that are not truly my own." Marquis became lost in thought as the boy kneeled at the grave and whispered, most likely a prayer for his fallen loved one. It was his full intention to leave the child, allow him to make his own way but the unyielding feeling in his chest continued to creep past his better judgement no matter how many times he shit it down.
Sandra flew over head, circling the graves, releasing loud Caws here and there.
"You know the boy will die if you leave him Master. I care not for the company of children, but if you do not at least escort him to the closed haven, I would care less to here your guilty conscious later on"
Marquis let out a drawn sigh... "Must you always nag me Sandra?"
"It was you who claimed me as your companion. I am simply playing my roll as you requested. I know you better than you know yourself. Trust me, it is for my sanity as well as yours. I grow annoyed when you are in a "mood" so save me the trouble and do what you know you will."
The boy had finished his final words and began walked down a path Marquis had carved out earlier in the week. He had said something before departing but, but Marquis was to busy listening to Sandra to hear him.
"Hey kid..." He said with a dry tone and then sighed. "Wait a second... You never told me your name." And turned to the boy, awaiting his response.

The man pointed to the grave on the end of the line, he could feel the emotions he'd been suppressing flow to the surface. His vision became slightly cloudy and as he moved twards the grave he knew belonged to the only family he had left, he could feel the warm condensation cross his face as the tears he could no longer hold back began to fall. He dropped to one knee and said a solemn prayer, "Father, thank you for everything, for taking me in, taking care of me all these years. I will take your advice. I will make myself someone who cares for others, I will learn everything I can about this world and help those in need. I will become a man worthy of being called your son." He rose to his feet, knowing he would be soon oh his own he checked the sack he was given. In it he found around 3 days worth of rations, some vials with red liquid in it and a skin of water, if he used it carefully he could make it last for a week. As if out of nowhere a voice broke the silence "Hey kid.." the man said, sighed once "wait a second, you never told me your name." He looked up, almost stunned, he figured he would leave silently and have to fend for himself, but conversation before he left was good too, he thought, he should at least know his saviors name. "My name is Laeyon." He said as he walked to the man who was now standing, looking directly at him with almost hesitant interest. "I would like to know the name of the man who saved me. If I may, what is your name sir?"

Marquis threw the last of the bodies in the hole and stepped out, now standing before Laeyon. He gave the child a light bow, and as he rose Sandra perched upon his head.
"I am Marquis O'Debrenth of Solace, a place very far from this land. And this...", he said pointing to the Raven kneading his scalp with her talons, "Is Sandra."
He walked passed Laeyon and singled him with a lazily waved hand to follow.
"Your fortunate I was close by. I've been camping up here for a short time now, waiting until I decided on a new destination. I would have liked to camp a few more days but the fights below seem to be escalating and more and more undead creep from the forest by the hour. I have no doubt you could make the journey to the next town on your own, but as it seems I myself will be leaving, we might as well accompany each other."
They had arrived back at the cave Marquis had called home for the past week and he began loading a pack with equipment. Several small daggers, 3 torches, bags of empty vials and flasks as well of others filled with multifarious colors of liquid. He grabbed a leather belt laying on a make shift bed, and slung it over his shoulder, taking two oddly shaped blades and sliding them into the sheaths attached to it. The weapons were long and curved. Not quiet a broadsword but much larger than the standard dagger. The hilt was black and wrapped in red ribbon, with a golden colored guard. The back of the blade was sharp and thin, gleading in the light of the caves burning torches. The bottom, serrated and spaced like teeth. The teeth were a separate color than the main body of the weapon, an odd luminescent orange. A line a symbols running down the body above a thing space used to catch and break other incoming blades.
After getting himself situated, Marquis threw a dark split cloak over his back, two small holes in the back gave space for the handles of his blade to clear though. Look at the Laeyon, he pulled up the hood and smiled. "So, ready to get moving?" Sandra let out a long caw which caused Marquis to raise and eye brow and scratch the back of his head awkwardly.

He looked around the cave while Marquis was busy packing and took note of what was going into the sack, a few daggers torches vials similar to what he had with him in his sack. He looked playfully to Sandra, the crow that was studying every move Marquis made and said "So I guess we'll be together for a while. Let's be friends!" The crow turned it's head his way and let out a bored, almost sarcastic Caw. Marquis looked up and let out a small chuckle. Putting his cloak over his head and said "So, ready to get moving?". They started down the mountain path to the closest town. Not long after they started he cohld see what remaind of his lost village to the far left. He fought back some left over emotions he had and refocused is determination. " I promise I will follow your teachings father. I will become a man worthy of a last name. Worthy of being called your son." After a while he started to look around, everything was looking the same. He looked to Marquis and asked "How do you not get lost, everything looks the same?" Marquis just chuckled and kept moving. Purplexed, he wondered if Marquis heard him or was brushing him off. Then Marquis came to a sudden stop and held Laeyon back. He looked around seeing nothing, but hearing a shuffling sound. An Undead came into sight from the brush. A familiar heat came from the core of his being. He could feel his senses opening. He could feel every vibration in the air. He heard more noises coming from behind and from the east and west. A sense of dread come over him, he knew, from hunting so often this sense of dread was very familiar, they were surrounded. Marquis got into a fighting stance and put his hands on the daggers at his waist as more undead came into view.

PostSubject: Re: A new Beginning   Sun Jul 26, 2015 12:57 am

As Marquis and Laeyon made their way across the valley he watched as the boy stopped to look at every spectical. From large trees to wild animals, everything captured his attention. Sandra stayed a few achers ahead in order to scout potential danger. Marquis continued pondering the blue light and strange power he felt within in Laeyon. It was not only the intensity of the power but the conflicting nature of it. On one side Marquis could feel a dark almost ancient energy, and on the other, that similar to someone like himself, a Mage of Orion, those capable of wielding the very earth with their soul. There was certainly more to this fragile looking boy than met the eye, and it was clear to Marquis, even Laeyon himself was unaware of the potential locked away inside of him.
Marquis thoughts were abruptly cut short as Sandra broke violently though "The undead made it farther west then we originally expected. A group is heading directly for you and another horde is approaches from the east, along with the forest to the south. You are surrounded."
Marquis pulled a dagger from his belt and pushed Laeyon behind him. "I can feel them but don't you think you could have mentioned that sooner!" He replied with an agitated tone.
"Your mind has been much harder to enter as of late, it would seem the life of this child has you distracted. You should be more alert and not expect so much of me."
Marquis bit the side of his check with a tisk. "Are you seriously trying to teach me a lesson at a moment like this! Goddamnit Sandra!"

The western horde had already made its way to them, Marquis pulled another dagger from his belt and tossed it to Laeyon.
"Stay as close to me as possible. If an undead gets to close shove that blade right through its skull, and trust me it's sharp enough so don't go losing any fingers. Once I make an opening I want you to run, run as fast and far as you can. Follow Sandra, she will get you somewhere safe."
Marquis leaped forward and ran the dagger through the skull of the closest undead, pulling it out and twisting around to slice off the top of another beside it. Grabbing hold of his right elbow with his left hand, he pointed the dagger to a small group. The tip of the dagger began to glow a bright orange and with a shout, fire burst out in a wide arch, obliterating everything in it's path.
Laeyon was frozen, blinking wildly at the spectacle.
"What the hell are you doing!" Marquis roared. "Get out of here, now!"

Catching the dagger tossed to him, he looked at it almost with suprise. "What the hell are you doing!" Marquis roared "Get out of here, now!" Laeyon hesitated for a moment, looked, looked for Sandra, then headed in her direction. He easily got past the line of undead with the aid of the Crow keeping ahead of him, but looked back at Marquis who was landing blow after blow, striking each undead with ease, one Undead looked to be too close to him from behind, "Marquis look out behind you!" He yelled, and before he could get the last word out of his mouth Marquis took the undead out with one swift stroke to the head. Laeyon then turned around to continue running in the direction Sandra had made for him but it didn't take long for one of the Undead to cross his path from all the noise he had just made. He hesitated momentarily, then in one swift stroke, he stabbed the undead through the skull. The Undead convulsed once, then fell face down to the ground and Laeyon fell back on his rear as it did, clearly shaken from the encounter and was unable to move a muscle. Marquis had easily taken out 5 or 6 more undead before glancing over to where he was, "Move boy, if you don't want to die here, move!". This snapped him out of his fear, he got to his feet and began running as fast as he could tward Sandra's location. This now all too familiar feeling of his throat, dry and burning from a mixture of overexurtion and fear filled his thoughts as he pounder his feet faster than he ever had before. "This is what real combat is like." He thought as he ran. "I need to be stronger, I can't keep relying on people like this forever." He dared not look back again as he ran, he knew Marquis was strong. He knew he would be fine, but he still cursed his weakness, his inability to fight and protect those close to him. When he was far enough away Sandra made a stop on a nearby fallen tree and made a soft caw, as if telling him to relax. When he finally stopped moving he collapsed to the ground, his adrenaline finally giving out and the extreme fatigue catching up, he was able to sit up against the tree Sandra was on. "Hey, thanks for showing me out, you're quite the intelligent crow aren't you? If not for you I'd surely had gotten killed. Thanks Sandra." The bird ruffled hee feathers and made an angry caw! Noise. He wondered what that meant as his building fatigue caught up to him and he faded out of consiousness.

Marquis could no longer make sight of Laeyon. He beat himself from within for ever thinking of letting the child venture forth on his own. "This was my task all along" he thought. "Had I continued on and not made camp, he would be dead. The village, it's history, it's people, they all live in him now, a survivor. Don't die on me now boy... Not after I risk my life yet again to save yours."
Marquis circled the undead quickly, taking out one at a time with precision. A cluster remained, a well sized group from the south. Grabbing one, he took a small vial of purple liquid from his pack and shoved it in its mouth, forcing it shut so the vial broke, and kicked it back into the group with a quick twirl. It flew into another knocking it over, convulsed, at first slowly and then wildly until it suddenly combusted into a shower of blood. The explosion wiping out the remain undead surrounding it, as well as coat Marquis it their remains. Wiping the blood from his face, he placed the dagger back on his belt and examined one of the undead corpses. They were fresh, not risen from a grave but recently slain and brought back as servents of the damned. "What's going on here?..." He thought, remembering the warriors Sandra mentioned fighting Drow in the forest. "The rest of them are decrepied, but these bodies are newly turned. Not from a grave but of a fresh kill. Could they truly be making a run for the surface... Have they grown so bold to try?" He tucked the thought away for another time and headed in the direction Sandra had taken Laeyon. When he arrived at a small tree in the center of a clearing he saw Sandra posted on top the head of the boy, pecking at him repeatedly.
"What on earth are you doing?" He asked her.
"This brat called me a crow! A bloody crow! The audacity, the ignorance. Would he like me call him a peasant? A hobbit!" She spread her wings wide as she ranted to Marquis.
"Enough Sandra you didn't have to knock him out." He sighed.
"That wasn't me, he was capable of that all on his own, I simply brought him here and he thought it best to nap while we wait for you."
"Perhaps I should have chosen a crow as my companion." Marquis said with sass. "It wouldn't be so intitled." Sandra made a loud noise and flew off.  "That's right, you go cool down for a moment."
Marquis threw the boy on his shoulders and went a few more miles west until dawn. Finding a nice cluster of trees, he set a fire between them and unrolled a long mat, laying Laeyon on it. Sandra watched the boy as Marquis went out in search for game, finding only a small rabbit. He could have easily used the rations in his or the boys bag, but he was uncertain when they would find time to rest again and such things would become more valuable than gold. As the smell of freshly cooked meat filled the air and darkness set the sky, Laeyon began to stir, and sat up with a twitching nose.

His consiousness slowly coming to life at a pace a bit behind his body Laeyon stared blankly into the fire that was keeping him warm and producing a wonderful smell. His nose twitched, and he snapped into the waking world. "Where are we? I guess we out ran the undead for now, huh?". He remarked. Marquis nodded. Looking around, Laeyon wanted to take note of his surroundings this time, where something might come out, where some undead might come for their lives again. This last encounter taught him a great deal, not only that no where was safe from their reach, but that he was powerless to stop them if they were attacked again. His stomach made a quite audible noise making no effort to hide his Hunger, Marquis handed him a sizable portion of cooked meat on a stick and without any words other than a quiet "Thank you." He began eating. It had felt like ages since he'd had his last decent meal, when in reality it had only been a day. After taking two large bites and making quick work of the meat he looked up to Marquis again, sighed and worked up his courage to speak. "I....." he trailed off for a moment. "I know now....the depths of my weakness, if not for you there I most certainly would have died. Growing up in the village was peaceful, we had no need for training to fight, the only reason I even know which end of the blade goes where is from handling the farm tools for so long, but I want the strength to protect those dear to me. I never want to watch those I care about die in front of me again. And I don't want to be a burden to you while we travel, could you teach me some basic fighting techniques?" He looked Marquis in the eyes, wanting to convey his determination not only through words but with his whole being. He wanted to be strong. He wanted to be able to protect those around him in these ever increasingly troubling times. He wanted to be strong enough to hold his own.

Marquis listened to the boys plea as he tore into the remaining chunk of hare on the split, eyeing him. After he finish his heroic speech, Marquis swallowed and learned forward, flicking the split between his fingers, and tossed the last piece of his hare to Sandra, who swooped by and snatched it up instantly. "So, you wish to learn the art of combat." He chuckled. "I do believe everyone should know the basics of self defense, but the first lesson in war..." Marquis launched the slim piece of wood from his finger tips and it bore deep into the flesh of Laeyon's leg. The boy released a suprised and agonized cry, and cursed, grasping his leg and dropping his last bite of hare. "One must know pain before he can ever inflict it." He finished. "If you want to be victorious you must first know defeat. You should know the extant of your own prowess and test it daily, and with courage and perseverance, push yourself farther than you ever thought possible. The feeling in your leg now is nothing compared to a cut from a blade or a gash from an axe, or the burning of your flesh from a raging fire or pissed off mage." Marquis leaned over and pulled the split from Laeyon, then placed his hand over the wound and closed his eyes. Laeyon could feel a slight burning sensation and twitched slightly until he felt his skin slowly stitch together. In seconds the hole was closed and not even a scar could be seen.
"The vials in your bag will finish the healing process deeper in, which I recommend you take immediately, it has been over 24 hours.
Marquis leaned back and rested his shoulders against a tree, grabbing his cloak and throwing it over himself.
"I'm going to get some rest before dawn. We will continue forward bright and early."
Marquis didn't sleep well, he mostly rested as his mind went wild with dark memories and unanswered questions. He could hear rustling through the camp, but senced no danger and heard no panic from Sandra. Assuming it was the boy being nosy he returned to his nightmarish woes.

The sun peaked over the edge of Moonwhisper Mountain, casting a luminous orange and green glow to the sky. Marquis rose feeling far more refreshed then he imagined. Laeyon was sleeping, mouth wide open and Sandra perched on his bag close to him.
"I thought you disliked the "Peasant, Hobbit child?" Marquis teased her. She opened one eye as if to scowl.
"Someone has to watch him while you snore." She mocked.
"I most certainly do no such thing!" He rebuttaled pathetically.
"Keep believing what you will, but my disturbed ears say otherwise."
"Did I actually fall asleep?" He asked himself.
Marquis walked a few archers from the camp to scope the surrounding area. He could sence no hostile presence close by and the weather was sublime. "Perhaps today will be for the better." He remarked to no one.
On his way back to camp he saw two perfectly symmetrical branches of Camelthorn. Pulling out a dagger he removed the thorns from the branches and narrowed them at the top. "These should do fine."
Back at camp Laeyon was still sleeping. Marquis leaned over him and began clapping vigorously, yet he didn't so much as flinched. "Heavy sleeper are we..." Marquis looked around and found a decent sized rock, about the size of the average human skull. Holding it between his hands, he closed his eyes and focused on the minerals within. Traces of copper and iron could be felt within the stone and Marquis began to pull and melt the compounds into the shape of a bell. Once complete it was nearly impossible to tell it was ever a simple rock from the valley. He returned to Laeyon and using the Camelthorn rang the bell continuously. "Quickly, quickly rise my boy, we are under attack, the hordes of the dead have returned to rid us of our flesh!"
Laeyon shot to his feet twirling wildly and moving staggered with no sence of direction, shouting profanities at the unexciting foe. Marquis tossd one of the Camelwood branches at him and to Marquis' suprise he caught it though with no grace.
"Wake yourself child and calm your mind, there is no danger here but I." Marquis took an offensive position facing Laeyon, holding out the branch as if it were a sword. "Today, we train." And he dashed at the weary Laeyon with blinding speed. The boy flinched a the Camelwood smacked him across the head. "Raise your weapon my boy! Block me if you can." Marquis laid another blow, this time against his left arm. He continued the assault watching as the boy flinched and failed to see his attacks coming. Landing several more Laeyon became angry and exhausted. Marquis went in for another blow, a loud clacking sound echoed the valley as Marquis' branch came in contact with Laeyon's. "That's it, if you can not attack, you must defend. Now, can you keep up!"

PostSubject: Re: A new Beginning   Sun Jul 26, 2015 7:36 pm

After listening to Marquis' speech about the various principles of combat he no longer felt the stinging of his leg. As a matter of fact it was as of the wound never existed at all! He stared at his leg for a moment before Marquis continued "Get some rest before dawn, we start bright and early." On that note he looked to his sack, pulled out one of the vials and drank the contents. It tasted almost sickly sweet, like sap from a tree or the honey from bees left out too long. He then tried to move his arm, after seeing a stab wound close before his eyes, who knew what was possible? He released his arm from its sling and tried to move it upward...no pain. "Is it possible?" He thought and motioned his arm in a slicing arc. Still no pain. He then unwrapped his arm to see it. It was as the arm was never broke. He had full control and was able to move without any discomfort, so he took the supports off in their entirety. "This is amazing." He said to himself softly. He made a fist and clenched it hard. He had the full strength of his arm. He proceeded to move around the camp looking for heavier objects he could test to see the full extent of the healing. He picked up his sack with one arm, then Marquis' and moved on to some bigger rocks he could find. He soon decided it was enough and motioned  to get some sleep thinking "Marquis is actually quite an amazing guy, huh?" And soon drifted off to sleep. DING DING DING DING The loud noise woke Laeyon from his rather deep sleep, "Quickly rise my boy! We are under attack,  the hordes of undead have returned to rid us of our flesh!" Unable to tell left from his right being drug from his sleep so suddenly he failed at the air futilely and began looking around "Where are you, Undead! I like my flesh where it is, stay back!" Marquis chuckled and tossed what looked like a stick to him, but this stick had clearly been cared for and carved out to resemble a sword. "Wake yourself child and calm your mind. There is no danger here but I." He said finally. Taking a  offensive position he said " today we train!" And lunged toward Laeyon with a speed he couldn't keep track of, this resulted in Laeyon half heartedly trying to block the attack but to no avail, he was struck rather hard on the head and he fell on his rear. Marquis smiled and made a head motion to the left and rose his fingers in the air and motioned "come at me" with his hands. Laeyon refocused and grabbed the wooden sword, took a stance and went at Marquis, which was in one solid motion dodged and counter attacked. Even though he could feel renewed pain at the nape of his neck he was astonished at the pure fluidity of the movement and how easily he was dispatched. This lit a fire in him. He doubled back and came at Marquis again, to the same outcome, only this time the pain was to his shoulder. "Damnit!" He exclaimed while preparing for another attack but this time Marquis was on the offensive, and brought the wooden weapon to his ribs. This time Laeyon was able to put his weapon into the path of Marquis' but was helpless to stop the attack. This constant back and forth action took place for another few hours before Laeyon could no longer get up or lift the weapon he was given. He could tell, Marquis defiantly knew what he was talking about when it came to the ways of combat, and the potions he drank were amazing as well. "Just who is he?" He thought to himself, sprawled out on the open field they were practicing in. After a moment he was able to collect himself and got back up. He readied himself into the fighting stance he saw Marquis taking each time. He knew not how but it felt as if he'd known these movements all his life, as if his body knew how to move. The attacks resumed, and little by little he was beginning to gain ground. Not land any blows but he was able to soften the blows from Marquis and he even dodged one entirely. They kept going until his sword finally gave way and broke when their wooden blades met once more. This caused Laeyon to fall on one knee. The exhaustion finally caught up. He was breathing hard and Marquis tossed one of the water skins to him, which he took several large gulps of the fresh water and fell back on his hands. "Oh man, you really don't let up do you?" Marquis just shrugged. The sun was setting and Laeyon was thoroughly exhausted by now. Went into his bedding and fell fast asleep. A loud crash stirred him from his sleep. Still groggy he looked around, Marquis was already on his feet looking around for what caused the noise. "Enough jokes Marquis....it's too late to train is it not? Allow me at least a few hours of rest..." he moaned. Marquis snapped back "This is no fraud boy, this time we really are under attack." This caused Laeyon to jump up and snatch up the dagger and assumed the same stance from earlier. More undead came into view, but this time he didn't have the same sense of dread, he felt ready, as more came into view he only got more excited. Seeing Marquis draw first blood from one Undead with one solid strike to the head only served to further excite his already boiling blood. "I can do this!" He charged one of the Undead that was shambling by itself. "It's not moving nearly as fast as Marquis was today, compared to him it's almost moving in slow motion!" With that he plunged his dagger firmly in the undead's skull, which caused it to fall and he pulled his weapon back out with one solid motion. He looked back at Marquis and yelled " I'll get the ones over here, you take care of the ones closer to the camp!" And ran into a nearby thicket. Following the moment of the undead and the loud noises they produced he found another two undead. He charged at them in much the same fashion as the first, dispatching one with relative ease, however his knife got stuck, and he couldn't remove it in time before the remaining undead landed a nasty blow to his open chest and flew back a few feet. Out of breath and gasping he quickly stood back up and looked around. Without Marquis to back him up he quickly lost the confidence he had previously. He yelled "Marquis, where are you? I need help!" His plea seemed to fall on deaf ears, surely Marquis was busy dealing with the undead near the camp, no help would come, he was on his own. As the undead came ever closer they formed a tight circle in which he would have no escape save through them. So he did the one thing he could think of, he grabbed a nearby fallen branch and made a dash at the closest undead in front of him. He was able to knock it down and ran over it, however the undead grabbed his leg tightly. He struggled to get free but to no avail, dread came over him. Closer and closer as the undead got his unrest grew, it was the same. Of course one day of training would not be enough to give him real combat experience, it was too soon. And his overconfidence would be his undoing. He tried jerking his foot free one last time, this caused him to fall on his face. He became desperate, "Move, damnit!" He yelled. The Undead only further closed in on him. "Get out of my...." he trailed off. His pendant began to glow, the glowing moved to his eyes, which had turned from normal human eyes to something more demonic in nature, a glowing blue aura emanated from him as the power began to take shape, he roared loudly and freed his foot from the undead's grasp. He stood, the newfound energy pouring out, the aura began to focus around his body and took the form of large blue wings coming from his back and claws from his arms and legs. His whole body tensed up and all at once he released a large wave of blue energy, wiping out all of the undead and everything else in a 12 foot diameter. He fell to his knees, then on his back as the glow and energy faded, then his consciousness faded as well.

PostSubject: Re: A new Beginning   Mon Jul 27, 2015 4:03 am

Sandra was nested in an open window, the rays of the evening sun beaming though. "Amzing how such a runt can possess so much power, and he doesn't even know how to use it." She cawed.
Marquis rubbed his eyes with his pointer and thumb, sitting in a wooden chair next to a bed with a sleeping Laeyon lying within. "I believe the boy isn't even aware of his actions Sandra." He leaned back, pulling his right leg on his knee. "It feels so familiar though, like that of a soul. But I don't believe this power is of his own. I can even now sence the strength within the boy, his natural potential, but this energy is of something foreign." He continued pondering the possibilities and a knock came at the door. "You may enter." He shouted. The door opened and a small framed woman carrying a tray housing two glasses and a pitcher of water came through.
"Sorry to bother you, I've brought drink. It's only water I hope that's alright."
"This will do fine my dear, your hospitality is most appreciated." Marquis took a glass and filled it a quarter way, took a drink and swollowed after slowly swishing the liquid back and forth under his tounge. "I have an errand I must attend to in town. If you could please watch after the boy while I'm gone."
"Yes Mr. O'Debrenth. Anything you say." She gave him a curtsy.
"Please the formalities are unnecessary. Call me Marquis. I shall not be long. If you boy awakes before my return, let him know I will be back by dark." And Marquis pushed open the door and left the Inn.
The owner of the town's Inn was most generous to Marquis. When he'd entered the keep with a decently sizable sac of coin the maiden demanded they receive the finest room they had to offer as well as tasking her youngest daughter to catering to their needs, and an added request by Marquis of keeping their visit quiet.

Marquis walked though the bazaar, hood drawn, browsing the wears of the merchants. He'd lost a good portion of his vials in the attack and thought it best to replenish his supply. As he looked around his eyes caught glimpse of one particular merchant selling weapons. A Pike with a bar made of ironwood and a tip forged from blue tempered steel, fastened tight by thick woven strands of red rugged cotton, hung from a rack. "That looks about the same height as Laeyon." He thought, grabbing it and twirling it over head with ease. "And it's extremely light weight as well, amazing." The merchant began ranting wildly in a strange tounge, but Marquis could understand most of his words. "Calm yourself friend. I am no thief, I wish to purches this fine weapon." He replied in the same dialect. "How much would you charge to part with it." The merchants eyes lit up and quoted an unfathomable amount of coin. After several minutes of negotiation, Marquis left the bazaar paying a reasonable fee with the exchange of one "Limerance potion". He chuckled with a grin as he strood to the town square, sliding the pike between the two sheathes on his back, the blade poking out from one of the holes in his cloak. "People will believe anything If you sell it well enough."

Sandra caught up to him and perched atop his head. "Buying a new weapon, I didn't think pole arms were your type."
"It's not for me, it's for the boy. He mentioned being raised a farmer, I think such a weapon would do well with his reflexes and might be more attuned to muscle memory. The length will also keep him at a safer distance from any attack, so long as they don't enter his inner striking field."
"Sounds like a waste of coin to me. What are you doing Marquis, you brought the boy here as you promised. Should we not be on our way, he is safe now with the keep maidens. You have done your part."
"And were are we to go? How long Sandra before another town, one such as this is raveged by this blight. I wish not to see more innocents lost. I came to this land in search for peace, and yet all I find is more bloodshed. So I am going to the tavern in search of a guide to escort us to the empire. Once their I will ask for a formal audience with his magesty Lord king. In exchange for information regaurding the current situation I will lend him my services if he lends me his ear and wisdom. If he is a good king, he would not like his people suffer."
"And what then of the boy." She asked.
"A more personal request will be for the boy to receive proper training, and given a set of armor fit for combat. Once his training is complete he is to return to my side on any task his majesty so wishes to give me."
"You assume he will even listen, or trust you skill without display."
"Then I will give him a memorable one." He boasted. "Laeyon is a survivor, he will not fall so easlily, and I am certain this war will not take him. I will watch as he grows, and when the time comes, I will bear witness as he avenges all those he lost." With those words Sandra flew to the Taverns peak, knowing not her words, nor the blades of a thousand men could stop him now. He was full of resolve and purpose, something she had not seen in him in quite some time, and though it was her norm to tear him down, this one she let go. Marquis approached the tavern door, and pushed it open, hood drawn, dagger close by side, and a glimmer of red dust in his eyes.

PostSubject: Re: A new Beginning   Mon Jul 27, 2015 5:42 am

The sun was already high in the sky when Laeyon slowly arose from his slumber. He yawned loudly as he stretched, his muscles feeling quite a bit better than before, he felt lighter, but he couldn’t quite figure why. “Marquis must have done it again. Not only did I get out unhurt, but I feel stronger.” He sighed deeply. “I need to apologize to him. My recklessness caused us both to be in danger.” He looked around at his surroundings finally taking heed of where he was. “Have we already made it to the town!? Just how long was I out for? I keep doing this to him, I need to make it up to him somehow.” He took another look around, the room was the finest he’d ever been in, quite the far cry from the conditions he was used to back home. As he gazed around the room his thoughts were interrupted by a soft knocking on the door. “Sir Laeyon, are you awake? Sorry for the intrusion.” Then a girl who couldn’t have been much older than he came into the room, “Is there anything I can get for you sir? Are you hungry? Or perhaps thirsty? Sir Marquis had instructed me to let you know he would be back by dark, and for me to take care of any needs you may have.” He blushed slightly, embarrassed to be seen, he knew he had to be a mess. He hadn’t had the chance to cleanse himself since the night at the village, and his clothes were in tatters from all of the near-death experiences of late. He looked up at the girl, do you happen to have a wet rag I can clean myself with?” He asked sheepishly. “And if it’s not too much to ask do you happen to have any spare clothes laying around? I think mine have seen better days.” He giggled quietly, better days? He thought, they might as well be dirty rags at this point. She gave him a gentle smile and a bow, “Of course, I’ll be back momentarily, sir.” “Please, we have to be around the same age, just call Laeyon. But I never asked your name? Would you do me the pleasure?” He said with a warm smile. She smiled back, “My name is Lilly, it’s a pleasure to meet you Laeyon. Now excuse me while I grab what you requested, I shall return soon.” He nodded, “Of course, thanks, I owe you one.” Lilly giggled as she left the room and slowly closed the door behind her. “Girls, huh?” he thought to himself as he finally got out of bed and stretched his legs and back. With everything that happened he had almost forgotten what pleasant conversation with someone his age was like. He enjoyed listening to the seemingly never sending wisdom Marquis had, but this was nice as well. He looked out of the bedroom window, the town was alive, he had a clear view of the bazaar below, he could hear many voices buying and selling wares. “I’m glad this town is still fine. The Undead haven’t run them though yet.” He tightened his grip on the window pane. “I sware, I will get stronger and I will protect these people.” With his convictions renewed he heard Lilly coming back to the room, she knocked, “Laeyon, I was able to get a rag for you as well as some clothes. I do hope some of my father’s old clothes will suffice.” Laeyon expression softened, “As long as they’re in better condition than these rags, I’d be happy with anything.” She let out a soft giggle. “Well if you need anything else just yell for me or come down to the tavern area, I’ll be working in the back. Ask my mother anything you need and she’ll fetch me.” “Sure thing.” He nodded and threw a huge smile on. Lilly bowed and left the room.
Laeyon took the rag and wiped himself off, for being outside in the woods for the last few days he was already surprisingly clean, he changed his clothes and headed down to the tavern area where he saw Lilly’s parents working hard to feed and meet the needs of their various other customers. “Finally awake I see.” Her mother shouted over the crowd. “When sir Marquis brought you in here you looked to be in rough shape, how are you feeling?” This question puzzled him, he could not quite recall all of the happenings of the night previous. He knew he had over extended himself and gotten himself surrounded, but the memories end there, he decided to ask Marquis about it later. “ I’m no worse for wear, thanks to your care, and thanks much for the new clothes. I’ll be sure to pay you back for them, but I have no coin. Could I work for a bit to repay you?” She laughed loudly. “Sir Marquis has already paid quite handsomely for anything the two of you might need, please pay it no mind.” He scratched his head. “I understand, however it doesn’t sit well with me to just accept help while doing nothing in return, maybe I can serve for a bit or wash some dishes?” She smiled, “How can I reject a hand so willing to work! Sure go join Lilly in the back and get some of the dishes ready, she’ll show you where everything goes.” She pointed in the back behind the bar, excited to be of use and to see Lilly again he rushed to the back where he helped the tavern for half of the day. When the rush of people began to die down the owner brought out two plates of food and sat them down on a nearby table that had just been cleaned. “You two take a break, you’ve been working hard for hours. Eat some food and take it easy for a bit.” Laeyon eyes sparkled, he nodded and sat down at the table. “Thank you very much!” and he lost himself in the wonderful food he was given, he had worked up quite the appetite. Lilly laughed at him, “Do you always eat your food in such a hurry?” He looked up, “Sometimes I guess, but the closest thing to a meal I’ve had in the last few days have been some hard bread and some rabbit thrown over a fire. This is heaven!” he continued eating, and when he and Lilly had finished their meal he stretched and asked “do you guys happen to have any weapons around? Marquis was giving me lessons the other day and I wanted to get some practice in.” Lilly thought for a moment. “well, the only thing I can think of weapon wise we have here are broom handles.” She said. “That should do just fine.” He replied, and they both went into the back where Lilly handed him an old broom that had just about lived out it’s usefulness. He tore the remaining straw off of the end and looked at the shafts that was left. “This should be great, I was raised on a farm, the pitchfork was the closest thing to a weapon I used until just a few days ago.” He took off the shirt he had been given, not wanting to ruin it so soon and began swinging the broom handle in different ways emulating in his mind the times Marquis had came at him. After a few hours he looked over, the sun was beginning to set and Lilly had fallen asleep against the wall of the inn. “She stayed here the whole time? Now that’s dedication to one’s job.” He smiled, moved over to the sleeping girl and tapped her on the shoulder. She jumped slightly when she woke up and looked around. “Good mourning sleeping beauty.” He said with a smile. She smiled and looked around again, “looks more like evening to me, silly.” She got up and moved inside, Laeyon followed suit, wondering where Marquis was and what their next move would be.

Thalos thought about the night before as he sat down upon the bar in the Tavern within the village, he thought about the people within the Empire who defending against the enemy attack. He sipped on his drink in silence as if appearing to be mourning for those he once called friends, friends he would never see again. His thoughts traveled to the night before when he defended this town successfully and even manage to have a defensive position around it. He had several Earth Golems placed around it's perimeter patrolling. He turned his attention to a strange man who seem to be talking to one of the people within the tavern, he couldn't help but over hear his attentions, he wanted to speak with his father he sighed as he thought on it turning his attention towards the male known as Marquis '' So you seek passage within the Empire? I do not know if you have heard but it is under attack at this moment, I do not think there is a way in without drawing attention to the people attacking the place. '' he would explain as he takes another sip of his drink as he laid it down upon the bar and stood up.

Thalos wore leather pants and a dark shirt and around him he wore a black robe. He carried his staff upon his back which possessed some magical capabilities, which allowed him to better manipulate the Elementals such as earth fire, wind and water. Thalos had a build of a warrior for his age. He had long silver hair which flowed down over his shoulders, he was semi dark skinned due to his father being a Half Drow and some dragon blood in him as well he discovered. He would look upon Marquis '' I will be your guide, and guide you to the Empire and give you an audience to the Emperor provided if he's still alive '' his voice trembled at the thought clearly distressed about it, knowing it is his family he worried about. '' I happen to be part of the royal family you are seeking I am the youngest son Thalos Carnisor at your service '' he would say with a bow as was customary '' Lazuli is my father and is the Prince of the Empire you seek Cirdan my grandfather '' he explained calmly deciding not to conceal his identity figuring it was better to be honest. '' I won't charge you either like some of these mercenaries would, in fact I think we would be helping each other. '' he offered as he sipped his drink to allow the man to decide weather to take him on his offer '' Before you decide remember I know secrete passageways we can take to avoid the complications of the war if that is your desire..'' he said as he leaned back against the pole near them.

The tavern was filled with many characters. The drunk, the weary, the adventurous, and the shady. Marquis made his way around the bar, asking it's patrons about his quest. Many laughed him away, one in particular snarled. “A fools errand.” chugged his pale of mead and slammed it hard on the table. “Be gone.” Marquis ignored the mans spitting and continued on. As he circled around one of the beams a tall dark skinned man bumped into him. He wore leather and was draped in a cloak. The man claimed himself to be Thalos, son of Prince Luzuli and Grandson to the Emperor Cirdan. He offered his assistance, stating that he could accompany him to the empire, and give him safe passage though a set of channels under the palace that only the royal family knew. The mans aura was swirling out of control, Marquis could sense much power within him but what shocked him more was the familiarity it had to that of Laeyon's blue light. Marquis had heard rumors of a dark skinned elf coming just days before and warding off a horde of risen and a small party of Drow by bring the very earth to life. He was unsure exactly how true these tales were, along with this mans proclamation to royalty, but it mattered not now. He was in need of an escort and if he could do as he said, he would take this mans word, and all the consequences that followed. “I except your offer Lord Thalos, it would be my greatest pleasure to accompany you. I have but one more request. I also have a young name by the name of Laeyon traveling with me. He is untrained in the art of combat, but capable of dispatching any undead that would come our way. If we are to come under attack by the Drow, it will be our duty to protect him at all cost, if you will except this request of mine, I will welcome you openly within our party. This boy is very important, more so than I probably imagine. The boy and I are staying at an Inn on the north side of town. You are more than welcome to stay with us if you so desire. I would like to leave bright and early and the less time I have to search for you the better. If you do decide to spend your night else where, you at least now know where we will be. I will wait for you until the sun reaches the peak of Moon-whisper Mountain. If you are not there by this time, I will take the path to the point you have shown me and make my own way from there.” Marquis bid Thalos farewell and exited the bar.

Sandra swooped down from her perch atop the tavern where she waited patiently for Marquis, and hovered close by as he walked. A woman let out a scream when she saw the large Raven and flailed at her wildly to shoo, but Sandra paid her no mind and continued to follow Marquis.
“Do you really think it wise to trust that man?” she asked in her usual dry and mocking tone.
“No, but it does not matter. I wish to keep him close regardless of his ability to get us to the palace. I could sense within him the same energy that resides within young Laeyon. These two are connected somehow, and if he is to become a problem, I would like to face my enemy directly. Though I hope it does not come to such things.”
“With you luck he will be the death of us all.” she sqwacked, then flew ahead to the Inn where Laeyon waited.

When Marquis entered the keep most of its patrons were leaving. The evening rush was over and the diner had began to quiet down. None but a small group in the far corner, and a man and woman who spoke with the Maiden Tichba remained.
“Pardon me dear Tichba, I do not wish to interrupted but has the boy awaken yet?” he asked her.
“It is not a problem Master O'debrenth. Your boy was quiet the help today. My daughter and he worked very hard and finished the kitchens duties in record time. The diner doesn't see much business around this hour, so I let them on their way. Last I checked they were in the back, playing with some old brooms.” Tichba smiled and went back to her conversation.
“Thank you.” Marquis replied and went behind the counter, pushing open the swinging doors to the kitchen. When he stepped thought something slammed into him. Looking down it was the maidens daughter Lilly, smiling at him awkwardly.
“Sorry Sir Marquis, my apologies.” she said with a bow.
“It is of no concern my dear.” Laeyon was standing behind her, an old battered broom stick in hand.
“Looking rather chipper today are we not.” he teased at Laeyon, who's face grew a bright red. Marquis returned his gaze to Lilly.
“Lilly could you beg Laeyon and myself pardon, we have some important issues to discuss.”
“Yes Sir, as you wish.” and she darted though the doors.

Marquis placed his hand on Laeyon's shoulder and walked him to the back of the Inn. The air had cooled as the sun peaked slightly over the horizon, the moon slowly building in height. The eastern sky was clusters of pink and orange, while the west was shaded in gray, twinkling stars peaking out from the clouds. Marquis pulled over a long unsplit log of firewood and motioned Laeyon to sit with him.
“My boy tomorrow we will be traveling to the Empires Palace. I have hired an escort by the name of Thalos. He has promised to get us within the walls of the castle unscathed. Once their I will beseech an audience with his majesty. If my requests are met, you will be indoctrinated into the royal guards training seminar. I can continue to teach you all that I know along the journey, but once we reach the palace, I believe it will be some time before we meet again.” Laeyon's face sunk. “I have something for you.” he added, and Laeyon rose slightly. Marquis reached behind and pulled the pike he'd purchased earlier from it's fastens and handed it to Laeyon. “I remember you saying how you grew up on a farm. I believe a weapon such as this would better suite your natural ability. It's length will keep you far enough away that no undead could harm you, as well as give you adequate time to strike. A double win in my book.” Laeyon looked upon it in aw. He rose from his seat and began to thrust it from front to back, becoming accustom to its weight. “Rest my boy, we have one more subject to discuss.” Marquis tone grew dry. "The other day when as you ran from our attackers, you called Sandra a Crow. This was very insulting to her. Sandra is a Raven." Laeyon looked at Marquis puzzled at how serious he sounded. Marquis quickly let out a chuckle and slapped the boy on the back. "I'm certain she will forgive your ignorance, this is not the real situation I wished to discuss, but for some reason I felt inclined to mention it." Sandra let out a loud caw as Marquis returned to his serious expression and continued. “The day I found you, I was searching your village for survivors. After much time I had almost claimed my quest folly, but before I departed, a blue light began to shine from behind one of the flaming buildings. Once I arrived to investigate, you were what I found. This same event happened during our last attack. A wave of blue light shown across the valley and obliterated over a dozen of the risen. This light my boy, came from you. Now, I need you to tell me everything you know, for I believe soon, it may be the difference between life and death.”

Laeyon had little insight to offer other than the feeling he would get just before losing consciousness. As if a rage had taken him and his body could no longer endure the pressure. Once awaken, his memory was hazy and full of holes.
“I believe what is happening child, is this power is attempting to manifest itself from within you. This power in such volume is overwhelming to your body, and when placed upon you all at once, you are unable to control it's magnitude. Believe it or not I have had experience with this particular situation so I do think I can show you insight.” Marquis grabbed several pieces of firewood and tossed them into a pile in front of them. “In order to harness and control the actions of this power you must first learn to control the power within yourself. By tapping into your own energy and linking it with this unknown source, you can potentially place upon it a limiter, allowing only levels of power in which you already possess to pass through. By doing so, this power could allow you to double what strengths you already have, without hindering the body, and over time evolve along with your personal progress.”
With a snap of his finger the logs ignited into a crackling flame. “Everything in this world is made of elements linked together like a webbing, setting of a state of vibration. This very fire is merely the air itself burning away to the energy surrounding it. I simply provided the energy needed to change these vibrations. To some people, these elements can be seen and manipulated, allowing them to perform astonishing feats. In this land, many know this as spirit magic, or soul magic, a form thought only in possession by the Valkyries. But were I come from we call this Sol, the power to use ones own life force to control their environment. The art of soul has been passed down for millennium by Orion warriors, a group creed with the purpose of maintaining natures balance. I believe Laeyon, you also have this power." Marquis pointed to the burning wood. "I want you to focus on the blaze, imagining everything around you as microscopic pieces to a grand puzzle, each one fitting seamlessly to the next, then I want you to use the energy within you to snuff out the flames.”
Laeyon looked at the flames intensely, straining as he focus on the heat of the fire. “Relax my boy, clear your mind. This is not a test of physical strength it is an act of the soul itself. Focus deep within, and pull from it pure and natural energy.” Laeyon closed his eye's, breathing deeply, slowly releasing each breath. Marquis waited patiently as the boy tried several times to no avail. After a moment of silence, Laeyon's eyes snapped open and he closed his outstretched palm into a fist. A gust of air burst down over the fire, and the logs burned no more. “That's it my boy!” Marquis exclaimed. “I knew you would succeed. Now continue to practice this, use your inner focus to light the logs once more, and then put them out again. Do this until it feels as natural as breathing.” Marquis watched with pleasure as Laeyon continued to repeat the steps he'd showed him. Even Sandra, who rested atop the keeps chimney flue, enjoying the hot air that flowed from it, watched as he lit, then extinguished the small log pile.

Laeyon closed his eyes and cleared his mind. First he imagined the wood. The fuel for the fire. Then he moved to the heat resonating from the fire.
He breathed deeply, taking in every sound, every smell from around him. He let out the air once. He deeply breathed again, to further calm his mind.
He felt it, what was once a raging fire was now a docile wind, he gently tugged on this wind from within and directed the power to his arm.
Feeling a strong connection he knew, he knew he could make use of this new found power, his eyes snapped open and in the same in stand he
closed his outstretched fist tight, with a dull sounding breeze the fire went out. He almost jumped up with joy at his accomplishment but decided against it.
Who knew what could happen if he lost control of his emotions while using the power from within him. He repeated this process once, twice, three times.
The fire was lighting and being extinguished quite fast, faster still as he became more accustomed to the feeling. This opened up his sense of self,
he could hear or feel everything around him. He decided to dig a bit deeper into himself, after all of he had such staggering power he would like to know of it.
He felt the once gentle wind become stronger, turning into a fierce, all consuming gale. Just before he was able to retract and return to the safety
of the waking world he felt it, an eye, an overwhelming power behind the ever watching eye. This was the power that was seeking to take him over.
Frightened his retreated all at once, lost all concentration and fell on his back with a loud fearful cry. He looked over at Marquis,
"I saw what you were talking about. I felt it. Whatever it is, it's powerful and dangerous." He stopped for a second.
"And you said I could conquer this...'soul'...if I trained enough? It would no longer consume me?" He looked at Marquis with concern. Marquis assured
him he would be fine with the proper guidance and control. Though the thought of even scratching the surface of that power frightened him he decided to continue training.
He continued to light and extinguish the flame. After he felt fully comfortable with his current task they returned to their room. It was quite late now, Laeyon had no chance
of falling asleep. He looked up to the ceiling of the Inn, he stretched out his hand and focused his energy, a small flame appeared in his grasp. He now fully comprehended the basic structure
of the fire, and what it took to create, maintain, and fuel. After a few seconds he finally felt a wave of exhaustion come over him. He turned in the bed and closed his eyes. He was soon
fast asleep. He heard a roar, Then he Found himself in a dark space. He wondered around for a moment in a daze. "Where am I? We were just at the Inn right?" He continued walking to find
some sort of landmark to locate where he was, to no avail, everything looked the same no matter where he looked. "Perhaps..." he thought to himself, he stretched him hand out and focused his
mind. A small flame came into existence. He then lowered his arm, keeping the flame where it was. "This isn't so hard, once you get the hang of it. Like Marquis said, it's all about control."
He looked into the distance, the light didn't help much, as proud of himself as he was. There was nothing to be seen, it was a void as far as the eye can see. He then felt a very familiar
energy close to him, a warm energy that he had known all his life. It was the same feeling he got when he was around his late father, He began to look around in a panic. "Dad? Are you there?
How is that possible..." He trailed off, looking around. "But it's not possible....He most certainly died....I saw it with my own eyes...." and before he had time to contemplate it
further, he heard a loud noise off in the distance. "What was that?" He focused on it, this too was familiar, not comforting, but familiar. Two glowing blue eyes came into view soon
after, Laeyon got into a stance, ready to defend himself as the being came into full view. "A DRAGON?" He exclaimed, and as the beast came closer he knew he could recognize the energy he
was feeling, both back at his village and during the Undead attack in the forest. This was the being that lurked in his consciousness, the being that was looking to consume him. He felt the
fear bubbling up from inside him and he began to tremble. "No....I can't lose control to it." he said under his breath. He bit the side of his cheek until blood was oozing out of the corner
of his mouth, he focused on the pain, and it served him well. He was able to regain his composure. The Dragon now only feet away from him reared back and roared, it was louder than anything
he had heard before, and he could feel the power behind it.

He woke up denched in sweat and breathing hard. "A dragon...." He finally said softly. "I have a Dragon inside me?" He looked forward, lost in his own thoughts and was startled by the small knock at his door. "Laeyon, Sir Marquis is requesting your presence in the tavern downstairs." Lilly said through the door. "Alright, tell him I'll be right down!" He yelled, jumping out of bed, shaking off the dream he just had. He got dressed in a hurry and ran downstairs. There he saw Marquis waiting for him near the bottom of the stairs. He waved at him. After getting in close to Marquis he asked "Can we step in the back for a moment?" After they were out of earshot of everyone else Laeyon told Marquis the events that unfolded in his dream. Marquis fell silent for a moment. Laeyon could feel the tension building with each second he waited for a response.

After Thalos had met with Marquis, and agreeing with the terms he made. He was left alone for the time being, as he thought on the meeting too Thalos something about Marquis made him feel semi uneasy.  He had never heard of this man till now and he had a strange aura around him that suggest he isn't even from this reality, as if he was in a different part of the mulitverse itself. Had he came through one of the portals within the Rifts that opened up within the Empire that his Grandfather opened? He had so many questions, but perhaps now is not the best time to ask.  He would gesture towards the bar-tender passing him another ale as he grabbed it taking a sip of it.  '' What do you know of the man who entered this bar? "" he looked upon the bartender who could only shrug his shoulders '' No clue  he is a strange one the guards mention they saw him come in with a young lad who is helping the Tavern nearby  because he couldn't afford anything '' Thalos paused and wondered if that was the  young boy he mentioned '' I see,  '' he said as he contemplated what the bar-tender told him as he went back too work, before he did '' They both seem strange to me though, the boy is just as strange as the male you were talking too'' he added as he cleaned the glasses with a towel.

'' Thank you and it seems that I will be journeying with the both of them..'' he would remark as he took one last sip of his drink laying it down '' I better go prepare myself for the journey back to the Empire I fear this will prove most eventful, I will learn more about Marquis and Laeyon  '' The bar tender nodded '' Be safe young lad, you've been a blessing to this town for saving us the night before  we owe ya more then you think. '' Thalos smiled in spite of himself he remained humble '' You did most the work as well '' he said as he got up from his spot and walked out of the bar quickly and yet no one knew really who he was, he did not want to give away his secret to the town and he was able to ensure that it was kept and the two strangers that he will be accompanying him, he would go and get the provisions required for the journey even bought two horses and one pony for the young boy Laeyon,  after purchasing the horses even though the stable master insisted that he didn't have to pay since he saved his home, Thalos would hear none of it.   He went over towards the armory as he checked out some weapons for himself a sword for the most part it had some magical enchantments placed on it.

One of which is almost vampiric in nature, he gave it a few swings it seemed sentient and responded to him easily and Thalos smiled to himself as he gazed at the weapon. '' I will take this one I think '' the weapon smith looked at him '' Just be careful with that one  it seems to have a mind of it's own sometimes ' he said calmly  he look up at the sword as he swung it harmlessly in the air, as he twirled it around with ease. He would then put the sword upon the case '' I will take this sword, if it's like the other sword my Grandfather held it will be best that I will keep it. '' he would say as he placed it back into it's case. He would go to the spot where his companions said to meet him with the horses and supplies they would need for the journey.

PostSubject: Re: A new Beginning   Thu Jul 30, 2015 4:03 pm

The sun rose quickly. Marquis had grown excited as he watched Laeyon tap into his potential the night before and could not let his mind at ease. "The boy is a natural" he thought to himself as he lay in bed with a light grin, the suns rays slowly filling the room. "It took Elijah a few days to teach me the basics and yet, this child commanded the elements in mere minutes. Remarkable."

Marquis made his way down to the diner and searched for Lilly.
"Good morning sir Marquis is there anything I can get for you?"
"Actually dear if you have an empty barrel I'd like very much if you could boil some water and fill it for me. It has been a while since I have had a real cleanings." He ran his fingers through his hair pulling on the knots.
Lilly gave him a funny face, as if an awful stench had reached her nose, then giggled. "Of course, just give me a little time, while you wait mom will make you something to eat."
"Thank you, and Lilly, after you have done so can you please fetch Laeyon for me and let him know we will be departing soon." She nodded and went to the back.

Marquis took a seat at the counter and asked Tichba for herbal tea.
"Does this look like an apothecary? We have water, milk, Apple juice and mead. Take your pick." Marquis went with the milk and chugged the pale down quickly. After taking his bath he took their belongings outside. To his suprise Thalos had already arrived with three horses well packed. He strapped his equipment to his horse then returned to the Inn in search of Laeyon, who was trotting down the steps with a worrisome expression. He pulled Marquis to the side and explained to him a dream he had the night before, giving the boy reason to believe his mysterious power was that of a Dragon.

"There is something we must discuss but I feel it best to leave it be for now. When I feel you have learned enough control over your Sol I have something I wish to give you but you are not ready quite yet. For now, if the power of this Dragon begins to seep through do not allow it, this is a dangerous power to have and in your current state if you continue to call upon it I fear your very soul will be divoured, and you will become it's vessel." Marquis recalled the feeling he felt from Thalos' aura, something he would have to ask about during a more appropriate time.

They grabbed a few rolls and met Thalos, ready to start their journey. Marquis could sense unease in each of them. Laeyon seemed both excited and troubled by his learnings and although Thalos was well composed on the outside, something else had his attention. Marquis ignored these feelings knowing this was his only chance to make it to his destination. Thalos was strong, this much was obvious, and though he was strong as well, some battles are best fought with other by your side, for only a fool believes he is unstoppable. "Even God's can fall." Marquis thought as he seated his horse and they went on their way.

With excitement and tension in his heart, he rode on. He wasn’t exactly sure Where they would end up, but he was excited that he wasn't left behind at the village. He fully expected Marquis, as much as he has already done for him, to move On once Laeyon was safe in the next village but here he was, riding full speed With Marquis and Talos. He stole glances over at Talos whenever the trail was Quiet enough for him to do so. “He can’t be much older than I am…” he thought “But he seems so much more calm and collected, so much more adult, and on top of that He seems strong.” Although Marquis had accepted Talos as his guide to wherever They were discussing on moving to on the map, as Laeyon never had the opportunity To steal a glance at it, he could feel a slight tension between Talos and Marquis. “This must be Another side effect of the Sol training. It’s like I can see their state of mind.” He thought to himself With a smile. “I still can’t get a full read on them, when we set camp I’ll train with it more.” The riding continued, every so often Marquis would pull out the map he had and make sure they were still on the right path. Soon the sun began to sink in the sky and the plains were illuminated by a dull crimson Light and they stopped for the night to set up camp. The fire was set, Marquis had him light the fire with his new power and After the camp was made, the bedding laid out, Laeyon sat down next to a large tree, closed his eyes and listened. Once he settled his mind he could hear everything. He could feel the small life forces of the animals around. There was a mouse he had been following, happy little thing. He ended up naming it Jumper, as it was hopping around from place to place happily. After about half an hour of following Jumper, he sensed a snake closing in on him. He felt a surge of emotion come over him but immediately calmed his mind, knowing while using this power things can go wrong if you let them. The snake drew ever closer and struck, grabbing Jumper by the rump and sinking it’s fangs deep into it’s small frame. Just then a hawk came jolting down grabbing the snake by its neck. This caused the snake to release it’s prey as it struggled to break free to no avail, the hawk closed it’s talons tightly killing the snake then and there. Jumper was left on the ground slowly dying from the poison Injected deep in his body and Laeyon knew, he could feel the life slowly slipping away as the toxin took its toll, Jumper left this world on the cold ground, alone and scared. Laeyon withdrew into himself, he felt a twinge of regret not being able to save his new found friend. He tried to clear his mind again to refocus his training, but found himself unable to. Eventually giving up he opened his eyes, by this time the sun had set giving way to the moon and he was surrounded only by the sound of the crackling fire and the smell of the fresh game they had hunted earlier. He went to Marquis who was sitting across from him on the other side of the campfire and told him about his experience with nature just now and his inability to regain his calm state afterward knowing Marquis would have some kind of exercise or solution to his problem.

Thalos rested at the spot where they would meet up the next morning, he glance around awaiting for Marquis and his friend too arrive. He would turn to regard the pair as they approached and looked at the young boy who seemed rather excited and also appears to be nervous and excited at the same time. Thalos couldn't blame him though. '' Lets be on our way then '' he said calmly as he seem to almost glide on his horse.

Thalos was worried mostly for his family and he thought of them as they left the village behind. He would notice the boy that was with Marquis, Thalos really hadn't said much they were already several miles from the village and all around them it seemed rather quiet the sun was at it's peak however, something strange happened the sky was darkening. Thalos would slow in his track, he would notice the boy seems to have his eyes closed for the time being, he steer his horse closer and places a hand on Marquis and motions for the skies as they darken '' It seems to be getting dark early, that is most unusual '' he would explain calmly.

As the three of them traveled and the darkening skies took affect, they did not know of the Drow army marching towards the group. As they spotted the three of them they would flank them archers rushed on top the trees silently as they prepared to launch a volley of arrows towards the group, as several Drow wielding short swords came rushing towards them. Thalos moved quickly as he fell into spell casting he would quickly enact a barrier around the three of them it was an invisible one, the barrier would protect them from the sleeping poison and the in coming darts he would sigh in relief. '' Form a defensive position '' he would say calmly '' I will need some time to work some magic ''

he explained as he fell into a sate of meditation trusting in his companions to protect him he would begin to channel in some of the Earths energy allowing them to absorb it's power... He would call upon the Earth itself as thunder echoed across the skies as he called upon the spirit of Earth he smiled knowing his spell worked..

PostSubject: Re: A new Beginning   Tue Aug 11, 2015 5:24 pm

Marquis followed along his path lost in thought, Sandra hovering close over head. His mind wondered to his long time friend Vaan. Vaan was the one who taught Marquis of his legacy and the potential hidden within him. The two didn't exactly meet at the best of times but Vaan's light hearted and caring personality drove Marquis to push harder with each day of training. If there really were good people in the world... in any world, they of all people deserve to live, and he would do all he could to protect them, and preserve the balance of the worlds they lived in. As the better days of his past slipped away, the more recent darkened events came forth. He recalled his father, the blood on his hands and the look in his eyes. In the moment, it was all he could think of, it was everything to him, everything that drove him on... Vaan had warned him. "This world is full of darkness brother. It follows all, especially those basque in light, for the brighter you become the larger your shadow will be. Those you let anger you will always have control of you, and in the end, you will be no more than a puppet to their desires. You can not save the world Marquis, you can only save yourself. Remember this, always. For the way will come when I can not be there to help you."

As those words tormented his mind Sandra shattered the barrier of his consciousness with an alarming tone. "Pay attention you fool! Enemies line the trees, we are surrounded and you are moments form becoming a human pin cushion!" As he came back to reality he could sense dozen's of life forces closing in around them. Thalos was chanting silently, a barrier already erected around, keeping away the arrows about to rain upon them. He could feel the boy pulling from the earth, drawling in it's strength. But this was different, not the same as his own skills, this was not a power of the soul, this was a ability he had learned of only in this world, this was MAGIC! The sky's darkened as the assault grew closer.

"Laeyon, ready your spear boy! Today your lesson comes in the form of life and death. Kill here now, or lay scattered across the grain!" Marquis kicked his horse and rushed to the edge of Thalos' barrier. Placing his hand upon it he closed his eyes and focused on the air within the field, drawling on the elements with in it. In moments the invisible wall came to life, and the group was within the walls of a raging storm. Marquis may not have the powers of this world, but he could certainly add to them with his own. Thalos' protective field was now a weapon as well, it wouldn't keep them sheltered forever, but be damned those who wished to cross it believing they would be unscathed.

Sandra came down and sat on the ass of Marquis' horse. "Nice touch. Do you think the weird one will be pleased you played with his toys." she mocked.

"This is why I love you so Sandra, for even in the face of certain death, you know how to set the mood."

"It's a skill only one as great as I could truly commit to. Thought I would be wrong to say it isn't a challenge sometimes. You humans are so droll."

"Marquis rolled his eyes as he rushed back to Thalos. The earth itself had began to tremble as Thalos' magic began to come to fruition. Laeyon gripped his spear tightly, his hands trembling. Marquis could not tell if this was due to fear or another impulse altogether, the boys mind was clouded and no matter how hard he tried to pry, no message could make it thought. This was going to be brutal battle he thought, but not for them. Marquis was never one to look for confrontation but if it was to come his way he would meet it head on, and now, as the group of Drow made their way to them, he whispered to himself with a smirk. "These poor bastards won't know what hit them... as their deaths will come swiftly."
